CHILDHOOD, PHOTOGRAPHY, THE 52 PROJECT

week-05-1-2week-05-1-3week-05-4week-05-2-2

It snowed this week–merely a light dusting of ice, but the kids didn’t care. They put on their warmest garb–which wasn’t quite warm or waterproofed enough for the duration–and with sock-covered hands, they packed snowballs and miniature snowmen until their fingers were numb.

For most of the country frozen now for months, snow has lost its magic. For us, this rare occurrence is a gift.

“a weekly portrait of each of my children in 2014”

liam: packing snowballs, his hands covered with socks

burke: happy and layered in everything he could find; he always chooses comfort over style

blythe: the first to wake up, running into our room to announce “it snowed! Can we go outside now?”  She was the first to do that, too.

olive: prepared for the snow with three layers of leggings and a long sleeve tee. I convinced her to put on a coat and hat.

  1. I love their excitement over snow. I grew up in New Mexico, so I understand appreciating the rare gift. Now? Ya, we’re pretty much done with snow and winter by the end of January. ;-)

I’m sure. That’s the way we feel about swimming and sweating in September. I hope at some point to visit Alaska–maybe you’ll still live there when we do. x

      1. I’m sure I will. We’ve tried to leave several times. Alaska sucks you in and makes it impossible to leave… You’ve been warned. ;-)

Thank you, Violet. I’m sure it’s freezing up there! We’re back in the 60s and 70s again, which seems dreamy now but makes for a brutal late summer.

  2. Such sweet photos! It was so fun making snowballs as a kid :) It would certainly be a gift if some of that snow reached us down here in Florida, too!

They had so much fun; I wish it came more often. As for you, at least you have the coast. We aren’t too far, but I would love to be nearer to water. x

A snowy day seemed like something each of them would want to remember, especially since we don’t have it through the entire winter. ;)

  3. Love this and I notice the girls look as stylish and cute, like their Mom! :)

Haha! Fortunately, they both got hats and gloves for Christmas. The boys were out of luck in the gloves department.
