HOME TOUR, THE FAMILY HOME

inspiration05

I have always loved white. My family regularly teases me about it, but I adore how white draws attention away from itself to the details surrounding it, whether it’s an object’s form, the texture and variation within an art piece, or the things and people filling a space, like in this Nordic home. Of course, it can be impractical (especially as a parent) but then again, so are stilettos. (Wink.)

Although it is a simple concept, enjoying the little things can be harder said than practiced. I love the hand-lettering of this print but value the message even more.

Georgia O’Keefe. Ballet Skirt or Electric Light, 1927. A little different than her other work, this piece stands out as one of my favorites.

Confession: I have the hardest time keeping plants alive, but I love indoor green space. I love succulents for their easy maintenance, and this year, I’m hoping to incorporate more of them into our home. Wouldn’t these plant stands from Ferm Living be perfect to give the succulents more presence?

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know, I’m still braiding (and getting better!). Mostly, I’m inspired by these tutorials but I’m also learning to improvise. I’m hoping to try this side-braid tutorial soon. If I can figure out a way to be consistent, I might even post my own tutorial here. (Fingers crossed.)

I hope this brightens you Monday. What’s inspiring you lately?

The braid tutorials have been a life-saver, especially if you’re overdue for a haircut. (Wink.)

  1. I love Georgia Okeefe but I love how simple her work is but still really powerful. I have grown to love white and the fresh feeling it gives.

Isn’t she fantastic. We visited her museum in Santa Fe last summer, an amazing experience if you ever have the chance. x

  2. My love for white has grown over time. I used to underestimate it, but now I am loving a clean white background and pops of color! Looks so fresh. I’m looking forward to moving this summer and getting a chance to start fresh with some things.

My son always jokes that soon it will feel like we’re living in clouds with all of the white rooms. I think I like that idea. ;) Happy move to you.

  3. I love white as well–the Nordic home is simply gorgeous. As is the Georgia O’Keeffe painting. Also, I always love seeing the braids you try on Instagram! :) I can’t wait to try it myself once my hair is longer. The milkmaid braids especially look great on you!

Isn’t that space beautiful? I love the mixture of detail in the pieces, too. And thank you, I’m so happy to finally be doing something with all this hair. ;)
